TagSpaces – Use Tags to Manage Your Data
The open-source application TagSpaces takes a tag-based approach to helping you stay organized. The application allows you to assign tags to your files and by doing so it helps you more efficiently manage your data. Finding files is definitely an easier job when you can search by tag.
TagSpaces is available for multiple platforms: Windows, Mac OS X and iOS, Linux, Debian/Ubuntu, and Android. TagSpaces is also available as a Chrome extension and as a Firefox add-on.
The system requirements for running TagSpaces on a Windows-powered machine are: Intel Pentium 4 or AMD Athlon 64 processor, 1GB of RAM memory, 100MB of free disk space, 1280x800 display with 16-bit video card, Windows XP, Vista, 7, or 8.
When you run TagSpaces for the first time, you will be presented with a Welcome prompt that provides useful information on how to use the application and quickly presents the interface. Speaking about the interface, it must be said that there are several options to help you customize your experience: toggle left hand panel, have left hand panel display the tag library or the folder navigation, toggle file thumbnails, toggle file details, pick between list or grid view.
First up, you must connect to a location – pick the path to any target you want, like a folder that contains images for example. Once you do so, all the images in that folder will be displayed on the interface. You can now preview the images and you can tag them. You can then search for files based on their tags or pick a tag and search for all the files that feature that tag. Please note that all the tags will be saved in the name of the file; they will not be saved in a database.
Tag your files and efficiently manage them. This sort of functionality is nicely offered for free by TagSpaces.
Pros
TagSpaces is available for lots of platforms: Windows, Mac, Android, and more. The system requirements for running TagSpaces on a Windows PC are very low. The Welcome prompt provides useful information. The interface can be customized. Easily tag your files; efficiently manage your tags. TagSpaces is open-source.
Cons
None that I could think of.
