Even with OS X's Spotlight feature, locating specific files in a huge amount of data can be tricky. TagSpaces can help you find your files instantly, even if they are dumped in a disorganized heap of data. The key aspect of this application is its tagging feature. It allows you to assign one or more tags to your files, which you can use as filters or keywords to locate the files immediately.

TagSpaces serves as a good alternative to Mac OS X's Finder. It doesn't display everything on your hard drive right away, but you can import local folders yourself, thus excluding data you are not interested in, like system files. Once you import a folder, its sub-folders will appear in a navigation pane, on the left side of the user interface and their contained files in the larger area on the right. You can open any files normally, create new ones, copy or move them and so on.

The application includes a series of predefined tags, which can be displayed on the left side of the main window, instead of the navigation pane. You can use them to prioritize files, rate them, mark them as complete or incomplete tasks and more. Clicking one of these tags will reveal a few options, for applying them on the selected files, showing all files with that tag and others. It is also possible to assign custom tags to selected files, using keywords of your choice. Besides selecting a predefined tag, to filter all files with that tag, you can also type a tag's name in a search field to locate its corresponding files in the entire parent folder.

Pros

You can tag files and find them instantly. You can also assign predefined tags and use them as filters. The application allows you to import folders and use them as separate repositories.

Cons

There are no serious issues to address. While using TagSpaces, you will never spend more than a few seconds looking for your files.
